To help ensure we have quorum and can start on time, and to speed up the entry process, we are encouraging everyone who is a Member (and thus eligible to vote) to arrive early by allowing them FREE entry so long as they arrive (walk in through the door) by 5:05 PM. We will then get attendance and everyone processed in as quickly as possible.
There is only one agenda item to get through, but it is critically important to our club. The current club Constitution and Bylaws, written around 1990, are riddled with contradictions, vagaries, obsolete standards, and flaws. The most critical of the flaws is that it expressly prevents us from paying for services of any kind (Article 13C). This means our Constitution doesn't permit us to rent the Palladium, pay instructors, license the right to play music in a public setting, carry commercial liability insurance, among other things. It is therefore impossible to be in compliance with the club's constitution and function as a club.
We are targeting to start the club's Business Meeting at 5:15. The only agenda item is a motion to replace the current club Constitution and Bylaws with a new (merged, updated, and repaired) singular Bylaws document. We are hoping for a fast meeting and the dance lessons to begin promptly when completed. To help ensure the meeting goes quickly, please take the time to perform any review of the documents (provided below) ahead of time and to contact us with any questions or concerns so we may hopefully address those in the days prior to the meeting. Inquiries may be sent to the Board at board@swingdanceclubhawaii.org, or you may call/text the Club President, Lorrie Ito, at 808-271-9931.
Quorum, in accordance to the current club Constitution, will be 10% of the Membership, which will be 18 people. Votes for a constitutional amendment (this is one massive amendment) require a 2/3rd in favor in order to carry.
